For the first time in his professional golf career, Hideki Matsuyama has been disqualified from finishing a PGA event.
On Thursday, Matsuyama was DQ’d midway through the first round of the 2022 Memorial Tournament. He finished with three bogeys across the nine holes he played and was 3 over at the time of his disqualification.
Matsuyama, the winner of the 2014 Memorial Tournament, had delivered a highlight earlier in the day, when an approach shot that seemed destined for the creek landed on a bridge instead.
Here’s why Matsuyama’s run at the Memorial Tournament came to an early end.
The reason for Matsuyama’s disqualification was due to the use of a non-conforming club.
