Reports: Chargers, WR Mike Williams reach $60M deal

The and wide receiver Mike Williams reached agreement on a three-year extension worth $60 million, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

The sides beat the franchise tag deadline of 4 p.m. ET Tuesday. Under terms of the franchise tag, Williams would have made just under $17 million in 2022.

But the contract with the Chargers includes $40 million guaranteed and will pay Williams $28 million in Year 1, per the reports.

Williams, 27, is coming off his rookie contract. The Chargers exercised their fifth-year option for the 2021 season. The Chargers assuredly would have placed the tag on him rather than let him enter free agency.

Williams caught 76 passes for 1,146 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021. The 6-foot-4 Williams has 227 catches for 3,662 yards and 26 TDs in 72 games (46 starts) for the Chargers since they took him #7 overall in the 2017 draft.
