Report: Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes agrees to extension

has agreed to a long-term contract extension with 2021-22 ACC Coach of the Year Steve Forbes, ESPN reported Monday.

Forbes is in the second year of a six-year deal that runs through 2026. The extension will keep him with the Demon Deacons through the end of the decade, per the report.

Wake Forest (23-8, 13-7 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeated NC State 101-76 in last Wednesday’s regular-season finale and finished fifth in the ACC standings. ESPN predicts the Demon Deacons as a #10 seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Wake Forest hasn’t been to the NCAA tourney since losing in the First Four in 2017.

Forbes, 56, guided East Tennessee State to a 130-43 record over five seasons from 2015-20 before being hired to replace Danny Manning at Wake Forest. He went 6-16 in his first season in Winston-Salem, N.C., in 2020-21.
